Bri's' Journal  I didn't like the new Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie nearly as much as the original. It felt very "recycled". Ha! BEST PICTURE: "Black Swan" "The Fighter" "Inception" "The Kids Are All Right" "The King's Speech" "127 Hours" "The Social Network" "Toy Story 3" "True Grit" "Winter's Bone" My Pick: Inception. Since the race will come down to The Social Network vs. The King’s Speech, I’d vote for The King’s Speech. Likely Winner: I’d bet on The Social Network to inch out The King’s Speech by a bit. ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE: Javier Bardem in "Biutiful" Jeff Bridges in "True Grit" Jesse Eisenberg in "The Social Network" Colin Firth in "The King's Speech" James Franco in "127 Hours" My Pick and Likely Winner: Colin Firth for sure. ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE: Annette Bening in "The Kids Are All Right" Nicole Kidman in "Rabbit Hole" Jennifer Lawrence in "Winter's Bone" Natalie Portman in "Black Swan" Michelle Williams in "Blue Valentine" My Pick and Likely Winner: The one win that I actually care about happening- Natalie Portman! ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE: Christian Bale in "The Fighter" John Hawkes in "Winter's Bone" Jeremy Renner in "The Town" Mark Ruffalo in "The Kids Are All Right" Geoffrey Rush in "The King's Speech" My Pick: Geoffrey Rush brought the heart to The King’s Speech. Likely Winner: Bet on Christian Bale to slightly take the win from Geoffrey Rush. Rush’s performance had been done before, while voters will likely see Bale’s transformation as the most original. ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE: Amy Adams in "The Fighter" Helena Bonham Carter in "The King's Speech" Melissa Leo in "The Fighter" Hailee Steinfeld in "True Grit" Jacki Weaver in "Animal Kingdom" My Pick: Jacki Weaver in Animal Kingdom. Her portrayal as a seemingly sweet family mother delivered lines about putting out hits on her own relative in a coy, innocent tone of voice. A performance on the level of Catherine Zeta Jones’ in Traffic. Likely Winner: The one category that is the biggest toss up. Jacki Weaver is a long-shot since her movie was barely seen. Helena Bonham Carter’s role was too small in the movie to warrant a win. Hailee Steinfeld’s newcomer performance was nomination worthy, but not likely to win. Toss up between Adams vs. Leo. While Amy Adams showed more range from her usual good-girl performance, my money would be on Melissa Leo’s more complicated character portrayal. Favorite 2010 Songs: (1.)
